1. Radhanagar Beach (Havelock)
Why it's #1 for families: Wide, gently sloping shore with soft white sand. Shallow water for 20+ meters — perfect for toddlers. Full lifeguard coverage, clean washrooms, changing rooms, and food stalls. Winner of "Asia's Best Beach" for good reason.
Tip: Arrive before 4 PM for sunset — beach closes at 6 PM.
2. Bharatpur Beach (Neil Island)
Crystal-clear water with vibrant coral just 5 meters offshore. Kids can snorkel with a life jacket (rentals available). Semi-submarine rides are a huge hit with children aged 6+. Multiple food stalls including South Indian, North Indian, and Chinese.
3. Corbyn's Cove Beach (Port Blair)
The closest beach to the airport (10 mins). Coconut trees line the shore, benches everywhere, and it's rarely crowded. Great for a stress-free arrival-day or departure-day beach visit with kids.
4. Vijaynagar Beach (Havelock, Beach #5)
Long, quiet, and shaded by native trees. Perfect for family picnics. Water is calm on the northern half. Less commercial than Radhanagar — better for a lazy afternoon.
5. Laxmanpur Beach (Neil Island)
Famous for sunsets but also great for shallow-water play in the morning. Coral rocks visible during low tide — kids love the natural rock pools. Wear water shoes.
6. Wandoor Beach (Port Blair)
Gateway to Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. Take a glass-bottom boat ride to see corals without swimming — kids' favourite activity. Beach itself is calm and shallow.
7. Elephant Beach (Havelock)
Reached via a short jungle trek or 15-min speedboat. All water sports available — parasailing, jet ski, banana boat. Ideal for families with kids aged 10+ who want adventure in a controlled setting.
Beaches to Avoid with Small Kids
- Kalapathar Beach — steep drop-off, strong currents. Beautiful for photos but not for swimming with young children.
- Rutland Island — remote, no facilities, long boat ride. Skip unless you have older kids.
